Information | Air Mail | Surface Mail | Postal Parcel

CONTENTS:

People keep asking me about the post office in Thailand and how much it costs to send things abroad. It can be a bit confusing as the post office doesn't have any brochures and there are different kinds of services. If you have something heavy then try the postal parcel service above. If you are sending a letter, books or have a small packet then try the air mail and surface mail links. Don't forget to check out the links to the left for different ways of sending things home.

At school we have an e-commerce business at www.ThaiHypermarket.com. We send parcels around the world all the time so we have some useful tips for you:

  • We have mailed hundreds of parcels and so far everything has arrived safely.
  • You can't use used envelopes or boxes with brand names on the side. If you have a box like that then wrap it in brown paper.
  • You can buy ready-made boxes from 7 baht to 22 baht. It only costs another 4 baht to ask them to make up your parcel.
  • If you have an unusal shaped parcel then sometimes you might see some people outside the post office using recyle material. As long as they wrap it in brown paper then there is no problem. This is very cheap.
  • If you are sending books or magazines then consider using the printed matter service. You can't seal it but use a stapler for the envelope or string for the parcel.
  • If you want to send something lighter than 2kg by air mail then try the small packet service. You are not allowed to have a letter or seal the parcel but it is cheaper than the letter rate. We have had nothing stolen using this method.
  • Most stamps are now computer printed so you don't need to worry about theft.
