Dusit Zoo, which is the predecessor of the Zoological Park Organization under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the King was established in 1938 by the Municipality of Bangkok.

Formerly, Dusit Zoo was a part of the Royal Dusit Garden Palace with the local name of "Khao Din Wana" which was set up by King Rama V as his private botanical garden. In 1938, the goverment of Field Marshal P. Pibunsongkram, the Prime Minister of Thailand at the time, asked the King for the land to set up the zoo for the public. King Rama VIII granted the land. Then the government asked the Bangkok Municipality to establish the zoo in March, 1938. Thereafter, the zoo was turned over to the Zoological Park Organization in February, 1954.

The area is approximately 47.2 acres; broken down into 35.2 acres of land and 12 acres of water.

The zoo opens daily from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. There are 288 mammals, 1018 birds and 292 reptiles.

How to get there:
The zoo is in the Dusit district between Chitlada Palace and the National Assembly Hall; the main entrance is off Ratwithi Rd. Buses that pass the entrance include the ordinary No. 18 or 28 and the air-con No. 10. Tel. 281-2000, 281-1039

This is a special place for families to come and picnic and enjoy freetime together. The kids on the left are standing on the fence looking at the Emu and picture on the right shows the train going around this zoo. You can go around this zoo by train, most of children like to go on the train.

They are looking at the animal which is in it's pen and the picture on the right is a kid playing on a go-cart in the fun zone for kids. He seem to like this go-cart, do you agree?

The people are feeding fish from the bridge which is above the lake. That kid on the right is feeding the fish by throwing some bread into the lake and the fish will come and eat it all. Can you spot the bread?

In this zoo, there isn't only the animal zone. There is a rest area as well. This area is used for the families to come here for a picnic or for boyfriend and girlfriend to play on the paddle boat. People can sit on the grass and have some food or sleep, up to them. After they finish their activities, they have to clear up the ground as well, make it look good for other people.
